*sigh...*

Its nearly midnight and I am restless. I have spent most of the day taking it easy. I have just been hanging around the house. 'Bumming' around the house is probably more accurate. I have watched copious amounts of television and played hours of football on the playstation that Paco lent me while he was in Nepal. Actually, I have spent most of the week inside these four walls, though not all of it was spent piddling away the hours in the glow of a tv screen. No, most of my week has consisted of hours of scouring the internet for an apartment to rent (that is, 'flat to rent', for you british readers...). Once I found one that I considered to be a possibility I would have to look up the exact address of the residence to make sure it would be close to a subway stop and other such things. Many times, that step in the process would end with me realizing that the particular house was way too far from anything to be of value to me. After this long process, I would end up with a couple printed sheets of phone numbers to call. Calling them was easy, having someone pick up the phone was quite a bit harder. You see, spaniards have a strict "dont leave the pool unless my child has his hand in an electrical socket" policy. This policy is strictly enforced during the month of August, unless cancelled out by the "flock to the beach" rule. Either way, it is difficult to get in contact with people, and when you do you find out that something is wrong with the apartment or that it is no longer on the market.
*sigh*
I hate apartment searching. I was able to go see two of them though. One was kind of crappy, but it would maybe work. The other was wonderful, but it wasn't until I got there that they gave me a summary of all the "hidden fees" that were not in the internet ad. Boo. Oh well. At least I have a couple friends that are going to help me search this week.
*sigh*
But yeah, now that I think about it. I have been alone since monday. I have left the house a couple of times (twice to see apts. and a couple trips to the supermarket) but most of the time I have spent hours, or days, on end without coming in personal contact with any other human beings. Those of you who know my "hermit" side are probably not surprised, but it had been a while since I had "hermited it." I didnt leave the house from wednesday to friday, for example. I am bizarre though, because though I get lonely after a while, the longer I remain alone the harder it is for me to rejoin society. When I finally do, I am annoyed. I am sure that if I were to become a real hermit, that I would be one of those "get out of my garden you damn kids" kind of hermit.
Why the heck am I writing about this? I have been doing useless things like this all day. A little while ago I went into the garden and watered the hedges. That was a first. Then I came in the house and decided to make banana bread. That was not quite so useless, but it was also a first. Maybe there IS such a thing as being alone too long. If that is the case, then... it would be a first.

Good luck on the search. How long are you planning on staying in Spain?

The semester I spent alone in Chicago pretty much made me scared of people. It's difficult to leave being a hermit.
