Cold Cold Cold

Well, this blog has been acting strange for a while now, and I have been to tired to fix it, but today I got around to it... hopefully it loads now, and if we are lucky we can even use the comments.



It is bitter cold up here in New England. Wicked cold, as they say in Boston. I dont think I have ever felt frigid temperatures like those we are experiencing now. It is -20 degrees here, which is cold enough as it is, but the wind chill is -42 tonight. That means that skin freezes and suffes frostbite after 10 minutes of exposure. According to the weather map, that is colder than most places in Alaska at this moment. Bitter cold which fosters bitter people, locked in their dorms; cabin fever is soon to hit.

Winter is almost here. You can never tell for sure at this time of the year. One day it is warm, the next it is cold. But for the past couple of weeks, the Fall has been wrestling, and losing, to Winter. The mornings start out very cold, and slowly the day starts to warm a bit as the sun comes out. Snowmelt demands movement

The sun is out again today. The snow has all but melted except for in the abandoned lots where they piled it up several stories high; but even those piles are melting, leaving behind all of the grime that was plowed up with the snow and rivulets of water running towards the nearest gutter. The fact that the water reaches the drain is quite a feat. Just weeks ago it would have frozen halfway across the sidewalk... and lain in waiting for an unsuspecting jogger. But, as I said before, the sun is out now, the temperatures are up, and the ice is nowhere to be seen. I am running out of excuses to avoid jogging, if you will permit the pun. I am in some of the worse shape of my life and I don't particularly feel good about it. Those of you who have known me for most of my life know that being "in shape" was never really been a priority of mine until recently. Photos of Ireland

I have neglected my blogs over Christmas I admit it. I will appease the blog gods by sacrificing these newly developed Ireland pictures: This was off the coast of Kerry. A beautiful sight, where the sunlight would break through the fast moving, low clouds and create brilliant pools of light on the water. Those very clouds were ravenous as they came off the sea and they ate every mountaintop that happened to be in their way. This was Killarney at Christmas time, like the song. Guinness factory. Pretty. I thought so at least. Yours truly with Killarney National Park behind me. Stained glass. Not much more to say about it. A gnarly gnarled tree.
