And... we're off!

Summer is officially here now. It is hot. It is sunny. Various immigrant groups challenge the concept of "bare minimum" clothing, though I am sure islamic cultures would say the same of us.
But I digress. Summer is here. I have finished with my adult classes (yay!), and now I am going to teach the wee folk (children, that is, not fairies and pixies). Camp starts tomorrow. Last summer I was at an english camp in Ciudad Real, my hometown, about 2.5 hours south of madrid. This year I am in Burgos, about 3 hours north of Madrid. It should be better that way in terms of the scorching heat of the southern spanish plains (contrary to popular belief, the rain in spain doesnt fall mainly on the plains. It falls in the northwest).
Anyway, that is all for now.

My mom and I watched "My Fair Lady" two days ago and she was pacing around the house singing "the rain in Spain falls mainly on the plain" this afternoon. I will be sure to correct this ecological misconception.

yes, the plains of spain are actually quite subject to desertification from the southern winds of the sahara. Well, I dont have to tell you that. You saw Toledo in August. Hot, dry, brown.

I can just picture Audrey now: "The rain in Spain falls mainly in the northwest". It has such a nice ring to it.

Also, I think you SHOULD teach the fairies and pixies English.

Snowmelt demands movement

The sun is out again today. The snow has all but melted except for in the abandoned lots where they piled it up several stories high; but even those piles are melting, leaving behind all of the grime that was plowed up with the snow and rivulets of water running towards the nearest gutter. The fact that the water reaches the drain is quite a feat. Just weeks ago it would have frozen halfway across the sidewalk... and lain in waiting for an unsuspecting jogger. I remember when I started blogging. I think I was one of the first people I know to start blogging. Dont get me wrong, it was a cultural phenomenon back 4 years ago when I began, but none of my friends really did it. And then all of a sudden a bunch of us did. We all kept it up for a while, some came and went, but I had a pretty vibrant blogging community. Tonight I found myself checking my friends blogs and finding only abandoned websites for the most part. It kind of kills a lot of the fun of blogging for me.
